Resonance Mean
Our actionable comprehension of the environment depends on an ability to contextualize experience. Repertoires of patterns within our cognitive and conceptual frameworks, some of them hard-wired but most of them learned, make coherent experience possible. When we are perplexed or stymied, the configurations that would yield understanding are in some way deficient or incomplete. Important elements or relations are missing from the picture. Our effort to comprehend the nature or import of a state of affairs lacks efficacy – it has no fruition in understanding or clarity. When the missing pieces are thereafter acquired and the resolving pattern emerges, the confusion dissipates.
Relief from confusion via the integration of elements or relations previously absent is one of the primary functions of explanation. Explanations are important firm assets because they provide high-quality structure critical to the ordering and integrating of states of affairs. An explanation reflects how those orderings are to occur.
Especially strong explanations have a resonating clarity. Strong explanations are high-probability accounts of the truth about an existing or prospective state of affairs because truth itself exhibits strong clarity. In such explanations, compelling clarity emerges like a rainbow emerges - almost unexpectedly. That dimension - which often materializes as a kind of surprise - is evidence of the significant informational value inhering in the explanation.
Constructing explanations of this quality requires determining the 'resonance mean'. This is the quality an explanation reflects when the elements and relations of which it is composed are duly ordered, integrated, complete, proportionate, and so on - such that compelling clarity resonates from it. These realizations almost always include a dimension of forward movement - a vector - because they relate in one way or another to purpose, progress, evolution – and thus to action. The nature and the correct timing of the next step forward is grasped.
There is literally a logic to clarity. This is a principle concern of our Pragmatica ontology. Pragmatica helps firms strike the resonance mean.
